EKG machines are complex devices that monitors the heart's performance. This noninvasive, painless test is done by attaching leads (wires) and electrodes to a patient's chest, arms and legs. The patient will be asked to lay down and the leads and electrodes will be placed on the patient. If a patient has excess hair and the electrodes are unable to be placed, the patient may be shaved in few areas to assure the electrodes are securely placed. During the test, it is imperative that the patient lie as still as possible with no talking to assure the accuracy of results. When the test is complete, the leads and electrodes will be removed from the patient. The results will then be forwarded to the patients ordering provider.
